We're on the eastern side of Greece, in the Thessaly region on the Agean Sea. Volos is capital of Magnesia Prefecture, home to some of Greece's earliest inhabitants. We visited the Archeological Museum, small but well organized, with items from pre history, 12,000 BC, through some from the Neolithic period, 6,500 to 3,200 BC burial and cremation sites from 7th to 8th century BC, complete with tombstones with the occupants' portrait painted on them. There's a stone tablet with oxplow writing from 800 BC, the earliest form of writing.

Next we drive up Mt Pelion to the town of Mikronitsa, perched on a steep hillside, at 2,400 ft. elevation, with a spectacular view of Volos and the harbor.
