We boarded an excursion boat in Volendam and rode across a small part of the Zuiderzee to the village of Marken, once an island but now on a peninsula.

Marken is a small fishing village, population about 1,800, with narrow streets. Like Volendam, it is neat and tidy.

We visited a clog making shop, where Bart showed us how the traditional Holland wooden shoes are made.
The tools used now are power tools, but the machines are 80 years old.
A lovely day in rural Netherlands.
